I've come to the sad conclusion that I need to put my 25th Anniversary Edition Mazda Miata up for sale. I know, it's very sad. But I hope to make someone else very happy. And then I'll be happier for two reasons: 1) I'll be able to make ends meet, and 2) I'll know that my Miata went to someone who will drive it, take care of it, and really appreciate it.
I "won" the opportunity to buy this car in May of 2014. Only 100 were made for the US market. Mazda had created a special website with a countdown to May 27th at 11:25 AM PST, at which time they would offer up these special edition Miata MX-5s to the first 100 people who signed up on their website. They closed the site in less than 10 minutes after 250 people had signed up. Then Mazda of North America started calling those who had entered to ask if they were serious about wanting to buy the car. The first 100 people to commit became eligible to buy the 25th Anniversary Edition at a Mazda dealer of their choice.
I was at work that morning and decided to throw my hat in the ring. I figured there were probably thousands of people vying for one of those cars, but what the heck. I clicked the button, entered my information, answered some survey questions, and submitted my entry. I got my call two days later from Mazda North American Operations. They asked me three questions:
- Do I really want to buy a 25th Anniversary Edition Miata?
- At what dealership would I like to pick up my car?
- Would I like a manual or automatic transmission?
I was a little bit in shock. I wasn't sure how I was going to make it work financially, but how could I say "no"? I said "yes", obviously, and asked to have the car delivered to D. Dahle Mazda near my home in Utah. I also said I'd like the manual transmission.
They explained that the car would be manufactured in Japan during the month of July. Then it would be shipped to the US during the month of August, and I should get a call from the dealership in early September. The dealership called me on September 15th. I was so excited! I didn't have the money, so I took out a loan to purchase the car.
Since then some other financial issues arose and I have come to the realization that I must part with this beautiful car. I didn't buy it to sell it, but that's the way things turned out. I know I'm going to lose money on it, but I'm hoping to recover as much as I can, so I'm looking for a buyer who will appreciate having one of these very special cars. If you're interested and you don't know much about them, I would encourage you to search online for 25th Anniversary Mazda Miata. There's a wealth of good information out there.
You'll note that a special watch was included with the car. It came in a beautiful winding/display case. It has a black leather band with red stitching to match the car's interior. My watch has never been worn, and it's included with the purchase of the car, of course. It reminds you how lucky you are, whenever you check the time.
I'd be more than happy to answer any questions about my particular car. Below are answers to some of the obvious questions, along with some pictures of the car. Feel free to send me an email message at miata25thanniversary at gmail.com.
